Why the debacle of the US Women's Soccer Team should be considered a choke
Alright, look, I don't like to say anyone choked because I'm not out there on the field or the ice or the diamond or the pitch or what have you, but this was clearly a case of a major choke. It was clear to anyone watching that the United States were the better team, and there was hardly an argument against this point. So, being the better team, it can only be considered a choke when you, not once, but TWICE, have a goal lead with under 10 minutes to play and cannot maintain the deficit and win the game. There is no other word for it when the better team has a lead and manages to lose. The '06 Finals with the Mavericks was the only choke I can remember on such a big stage that was bigger than this one. So, I'm sorry to Hope Solo and Alex Morgan ( I still love both of you) and Rapinoe and Wambach and whoever else is out there, but you CHOKED.
